All Things Pass
I have a master’s degree, or rather a doctorate, in accepting situations beyond my control. In adapting, healing, changing direction, and moving forward with love and gratitude.
And it isn’t easy. Life has made me this way. It has forced me. It has taught me.
I swear I wake up every day with the best attitude I can find. Wanting to live, to smile, to shower the people I love with love. I have so much love to give… and it’s so hard when you can’t share it with the person you wish you could.
And still, sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe. Like it’s too much for me to carry alone. Like life could have been a little kinder to me.
There are beautiful days.
Days when I wake up happy to spend time with my children. I look closely at them and delight in their beauty, the funny things they say and do, their wonderfully different personalities.
I find it incredible that they came from me. That these fascinating little beings lived inside me for nine months.
I melt like ice cream.
And I feel lucky and grateful. Because even after everything we’ve been through, I have so many reasons to smile right in front of me.
But there are difficult days, too.
Because being a mother of three is exhausting, too. Because you can love your children with your whole soul and still feel like you need a break. Like you need to share a worry with someone else. Like, just once, you wish you could hear: “Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”
There are moments when doing it alone feels so heavy.
So alone.
Recently, I went through a situation with Gab that overwhelmed me. In the end, everything was okay. He was okay, and he will be okay. But I wasn’t okay.
What happened touched that pain I carry in silence. It brought my grief back to the surface and reminded me, once again, how different my life is from what I once imagined.
I cried for two whole days. Thursday and Friday, I didn’t exist.
And I don’t think I was crying only about that situation. I was crying about so many things at once. About the absences. About what I miss. About having to find strength even when I feel like I’ve already used it all.
Those days opened the door to everything I had been holding inside.
And it all came out.
I wanted to talk to someone, but I didn’t even know how to explain why I was calling. So I didn’t. Sometimes you aren’t looking for advice or a solution. You want to feel that someone is there with you. To let your guard down for a moment and say, “I can’t do this today,” without having to explain anything else.
I cried so much.
But then, little by little, the intensity began to ease. I could breathe more calmly. I could see the situation from a different perspective. I could understand that I didn’t have to figure out my whole life in that moment.
I just had to get through that day.
And then the next.
Until I started feeling better.
And I did.
All things pass.
Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of pain, the deepest despair, or a fear that leaves you frozen, it seems impossible to believe that one day you’ll feel differently. You feel like it’s too much for you. Like the situation is swallowing you up. Like you won’t be able to get through it.
And then you discover that you can. That it wasn’t as difficult as it felt. That what overwhelms you today can begin to lose its hold. Something may still hurt, and you may still be afraid, but if you don’t let that fear stop you and you keep going, there comes a moment when you’re simply still breathing, and little by little, it passes. When you start enjoying things again, seeing the beauty, finding the positive side.
Sometimes you only recognize it when you look back: what once seemed impossible to get through is now behind you, and you’re okay. Everything is okay.
All things pass.
Sometimes you have to cry.
And give yourself time.
Sometimes you have to dare.
And take the leap.
Sometimes you have to let go.
And move forward.
Life already has enough situations we can’t control. And even when pain takes up so much space, I want to keep making room for happiness.
There will always be difficult moments. Difficult people. People who criticize, who talk about you, who don’t understand your decisions.
I don’t want to wear myself out trying to avoid it all. I want to move past it.
Because all things pass.
Today, I can breathe a little easier.
Today, I can see beyond what hurt me.
And the next time I feel like it’s all too much, I want to remember this moment. How I cried and then smiled again. How I thought I couldn’t get through it and, little by little, found my way.
All things pass.
In the meantime, I want to live. To love my children, take care of myself, and make room for whatever makes me happy.
Because the days pass, too.
And I don’t want my life to pass me by without living it.
Because all things pass.
Even life itself.

Y me siento afortunada y agradecida.
Jueves y viernes no existí.
A veces toca llorarlo.
Y darse tiempo.
A veces toca atreverse.
Y lanzarse.
A veces toca dejar pasar.
Y avanzar.
Mientras tanto, quiero vivir.
